Meyer Whiskey Sour

meyer lemon - bourbon - amarena cherry

  • 2 parts bourbon

  • 1 part meyer lemon juice

  • 3 amarena cherries (and about a tbsp of their syrup)

shake bourbon, lemon juice, and cherry syrup with ice

rub rim of chilled martini glass with lemon peel

strain cocktail into glass and garnish with cherries

notes:

I’ve never liked whiskey and lemons together. They’re both such intense flavors, I feel like it’s the meeting of a particle and an antiparticle—they just destroy each other and you’re left with neither one.

But then a friend gifted me a bag of meyer lemons I thought I’d see if I could do some mediation. Their sweeter, less acidic juice matches much better with bourbon, and the amarena cherries help seal the deal, marrying the vanilla and almond notes of the bourbon to the brightness and acid of lemon.
